CANCER CROSSING ASSISTS MULTIPLE MYELOMA PATIENT WITH TRAVEL TO WINNIPEG AND MEDICATION COSTS

Cancer Crossing has assisted a woman from the Interlake Region of Manitoba.  She has Multiple Myeloma which has further complicated her existing health concerns.

She is awaiting placement in Long Term Care and is residing in the hospital until a spot opens up for her.  She has been denied CPP-D due to insufficient contributions and is on limited EIA.  She recently travelled to Winnipeg for radiation for symptom control and will be beginning chemotherapy.  She is paneled and responsible for personal expenses.  She has had additional expenses related to travel to Winnipeg for radiation treatment and medication not covered under her health card.  She is struggling financially and so Cancer Crossing has made a contribution towards her travel costs to Winnipeg and medications not covered under her health card.

Cancer Crossing has assisted a Winnipeg man with rectal cancer.  This is a second cancer for this gentleman as he has dealt with leukemia in the past.

He had surgery for the rectal cancer and when he was ready to go back to work, he found out his position had been eliminated.  He is now recovering from an ileostomy reversal.  His regular EI has run out and he has applied for EI disability but his application is pending.

He is financially insecure as a result of needing to step away from his life to deal with his cancer which put him out of the workforce and into financial need.  Cancer Crossing has been able to give him a bit of a leg up on his situation.

CANCER CROSSING ASSISTS TEENAGER WITH EWING SARCOMA WITH PURCHASE OF A WIG

Cancer Crossing has assisted a Manitoba family with the purchase of a wig for their teenage daughter.

She has Ewing Sarcoma and is undergoing chemo and radiation.  Her mother was wanting to get her a wig to help her feel more comfortable at school and in public settings.  This girl has a sparkling personality and is amazing and is looking forward to getting a wig so that she can 'feel like herself'.  Cancer Crossing recognizes how the loss of hair is unsettling and overall traumatic especially for a young girl whose sense of self, and self-confidence, are still developing and we are so happy that we can help this family.
