CANCER CROSSING ASSISTS WITH TRAVEL FOR RADIATION TREATMENT

Hello everyone, we are still extremely behind posting on this page because we are all busy volunteers and the organization is evolving swiftly.

Our Rumor's Comedy fundraiser September 24th was such a fun night!

In the next week, we will be announcing our next fundraising event - stay tuned for the details!

Cancer Crossing has assisted a woman with breast cancer from the Parkland Region of Manitoba.

She has undergone surgery, chemo and now radiation for 28 days.  She lives about 100km (one way) from her treatment centre in Brandon.  She has no regular source of income.  She was working as a hairdresser and was impacted by the COVID shut downs then she got sick and now cannot work due to her condition.  Her spouse farms but that income is unpredictable.  She is stressed financially with the costs of travelling for her care.

Cancer Crossing has assisted this patient with the cost of fuel for her trips to Brandon for her treatment.

CANCER CROSSING ASSISTS NORTHERN MANITOBA PROSTATE CANCER PATIENT WITH TRAVEL TO WINNIPEG FOR CARE

UPDATE: We are still 100% operated by volunteers and are receiving multiple requests every week for financial support for cancer patients.  We are extremely behind posting on this page because we are all busy volunteers.  Soon though, we will have some announcements on our fall/winter 2022/2023 activities so stay tuned!

Cancer Crossing has assisted a gentleman from Northern Manitoba with prostate cancer.

His prostate cancer is coupled with a severe dermatologic condition.  He has a young daughter and a retail job.  He has applied for EI Sickness Benefits and does not lead an extravagant life - including living in a low-income apartment complex.  He needs to travel to Winnipeg to address his complicated health situation.

Cancer Crossing has contributed to this gentleman's travel fund so that he can receive the care that he needs.

CANCER CROSSING PAYS VOLUNTEER PROGRAM REGISTRATION FEE FOR LEUKEMIA PATIENT

Cancer Crossing has assisted a gentleman with Leukemia from the Interlake Region of Manitoba.

He has been unable to resume his usual work duties and is receiving EI sickness benefit.  He is on a medication that requires ongoing work up and monitoring, which requires him to be at CancerCare Manitoba every two weeks.  He is having difficulty with access to treatment and follow up care and would benefit from registration in the volunteer driving program but he is unable to afford the registration fee.  Cancer Crossing has paid this patients cost of registration in the volunteer driving program.

CANCER CROSSING ASSISTS PROSTATE CANCER PATIENT WITH INCONTINENCE PADS

Cancer Crossing has assisted an Eastern Manitoba gentleman with prostate cancer.

As part of his course of treatment he has had a prostatectomy which has left him with urinary incontinence.  His only sources of income are CPP and OAS which is barely enough to cover his base monthly expenses.  A regular box of incontinence pads will last him approximately a month and a half as he only uses them as needed.  His limited income leaves him with practically no discretionary income so he is having difficulty paying for the pads.

Cancer Crossing has assisted this patient with the cost of incontinence pads to help him achieve the urinary security he so desires.

CANCER CROSSING ASSISTS WITH MEDICAL ACCOMMODATIONS FOR HODGKIN'S PATIENT

Cancer Crossing has assisted a woman from southwest Manitoba who has been on an extended Hodgkin's journey.  She was first diagnosed in 2017 and has been successful in the past finding financial support for long term stays in Winnipeg for treatment through her local community.

She is facing another long term stay in Winnipeg for more treatment and is finding it very challenging to corral the financial support needed for the stay as times are tough.  Her and her family are exploring other means of financial aid.

She is unable to work and is on disability.  She has insurance but medical accommodations are not covered.
Cancer Crossing has assisted this patient with the cost of accommodation in Winnipeg as she tries her best to pull together the rest of what she needs to ensure she can get the care she requires.

CANCER CROSSING ASSISTS LUNG CANCER PATIENT WAITING FOR BENEFITS TO START, WITH COST OF MEDICATION

Cancer Crossing has assisted a woman from the Interlake Region of Manitoba with lung cancer.

She has had a series of unfortunate events that involved a prior health condition that caused her to be off work, and as she was on a back to work program, she was diagnosed with lung cancer.  As a result, she has no sick time remaining.  Her spouse has recently been laid off - which only exacerbates the situation.

She will be receiving EI Sickness benefits but she is in a service gap so has no extended health benefits and she is finding access to medication for pain and reflux resulting from radiation treatment, unaffordable.

Cancer Crossing has assisted this patient with the cost of medication.

CANCER CROSSING ASSISTS PATIENT EXPERIENCING HER THIRD BREAST CANCER

Cancer Crossing has assisted a Winnipeg woman with a recurrence of breast cancer.  This is not just a recurrence, it's her third breast cancer.  To deal with this latest recurrence, she has had a mastectomy, chemo and radiation.  Her prognosis going forward is a good one.

However, due to a comorbidity, she is on permanent disability which yields a very modest income and her only family is her mother who is in a care home.

She lives alone and does not have family or friends who can consistently come and help her with meal prep - which is required due to limited use of her left arm.  She has found a meal delivery service that will provide healthy meals at a very reasonable price.

In addition, she is experiencing some radiation burn.  She is very sensitive to chemicals in personal care products and has found a natural cream specially formulated for radiation burn, but it is a bit pricey.

Cancer Crossing has provided financial assistance to this patient for specialty cream for radiation burn and a few healthy, low fat meals from the meal prep service at a very reasonable price.
