CANCER CROSSING ASSISTS METASTATIC BREAST CANCER PATIENT WHOSE 'EASE INTO RETIREMENT' PLANS WERE DERAILED BY HER CANCER

Cancer Crossing has assisted a woman from southwestern Manitoba. She initially had a breast cancer diagnosis in 2021 and it has now metastasized to her lung and brain.

She has been travelling to Brandon and Winnipeg for tests, medical oncology appointments, gamma knife and an EBUS.

She was working in the education system and was collecting OAS but had not yet applied for CPP.  Given her new circumstances, she is now applying to CPP and EI sick. Her income is modest. She is stressed over the cost of travel and what it is doing to her budget.

Cancer Crossing has provided this patient travel funds to help ease her mind as she accesses care.

CANCER CROSSING ASSISTS WITH TRAVEL TO WINNIPEG FOR RADIATION TREATMENT

Cancer Crossing has assisted a woman from the Parkland Region of Manitoba who has breast cancer.

She has completed chemotherapy and is about to begin radiation treatment in Winnipeg.  She needs 16 sessions and is planning to travel back and forth each treatment day but if road conditions are poor, she will have to overnight in a hotel.  Her and her husband have a small farm but are otherwise retired and they live on a small fixed income of pensions and OAS.  The cost of travel back and forth to Winnipeg for her treatment is a financial concern.  Cancer Crossing has provided financial assistance to this family to help her access her treatment in Winnipeg with less worry.
