CANCER CROSSING ASSISTS LUNG CANCER PATIENT WAITING FOR BENEFITS TO START, WITH COST OF MEDICATION

Cancer Crossing has assisted a woman from the Interlake Region of Manitoba with lung cancer.

She has had a series of unfortunate events that involved a prior health condition that caused her to be off work, and as she was on a back to work program, she was diagnosed with lung cancer.  As a result, she has no sick time remaining.  Her spouse has recently been laid off - which only exacerbates the situation.

She will be receiving EI Sickness benefits but she is in a service gap so has no extended health benefits and she is finding access to medication for pain and reflux resulting from radiation treatment, unaffordable.

Cancer Crossing has assisted this patient with the cost of medication.

CANCER CROSSING ASSISTS PATIENT EXPERIENCING HER THIRD BREAST CANCER

Cancer Crossing has assisted a Winnipeg woman with a recurrence of breast cancer.  This is not just a recurrence, it's her third breast cancer.  To deal with this latest recurrence, she has had a mastectomy, chemo and radiation.  Her prognosis going forward is a good one.

However, due to a comorbidity, she is on permanent disability which yields a very modest income and her only family is her mother who is in a care home.

She lives alone and does not have family or friends who can consistently come and help her with meal prep - which is required due to limited use of her left arm.  She has found a meal delivery service that will provide healthy meals at a very reasonable price.

In addition, she is experiencing some radiation burn.  She is very sensitive to chemicals in personal care products and has found a natural cream specially formulated for radiation burn, but it is a bit pricey.

Cancer Crossing has provided financial assistance to this patient for specialty cream for radiation burn and a few healthy, low fat meals from the meal prep service at a very reasonable price.
