CANCER CROSSING ASSISTS MANITOBA OSTEOSARCOMA PATIENT WITH MEALS WHILE IN VANCOUVER GETTING SURGERY NOT AVAILABLE IN MANITOBA

Cancer Crossing has assisted a gentleman living in a town close to Winnipeg. He has osteosarcoma and has been receiving in-patient chemotherapy. He needs to travel to Vancouver to see an orthopedic surgeon as he needs surgery that is not available in Manitoba. Post surgery, he will have further chemotherapy.
Manitoba Health will reimburse him for his air travel to Vancouver but he is responsible for his own accommodation and meals while in BC. He has made plans to stay in the cheapest medical hostel he can find.
His EI sickness benefits are about to expire and there will be a transition period before his long term disability benefits start. Even with benefits, the reduction in his income will make it difficult to pay his expenses while in Vancouver.
Cancer Crossing has made a contribution towards his meals while he is in Vancouver.

Cancer Crossing helps those who 'fall between the cracks'.

CANCER CROSSING ASSISTS COLON CANCER PATIENT WITH TRAVEL AND MEDICATION EXPENSES

Cancer Crossing has assisted a gentleman who lives in a Winnipeg bedroom community and who has been diagnosed with colon cancer.  He has had surgery and is about to begin chemotherapy.
He was living alone (having lost his wife to cancer) but has moved in with his daughter for additional support and care during his treatment.
He is retired, collecting CPP and OAS, so his income is fixed and limited.  He is concerned about his ability to cover the cost of travel to his medical appointments and to access his medications.  His daughter has been taking time off work to drive him to his appointments.  He is in the process of exploring other means of financial support but his need is now.
Cancer Crossing has made a contribution to this patients travel and medication expenses and we hope that soon he will find further financial resources to help get him by.
