CANCER CROSSING ASSISTS RURAL CERVICAL CANCER PATIENT WITH URBAN ACCOMMODATION EXPENSE

Cancer Crossing has assisted a woman with cervical cancer from the Parkland region of Manitoba. She is receiving concurrent chemotherapy and radiation and needs to be in Winnipeg to receive her treatment. She is staying at a facility that has reduced rates for patients who live in the rural areas, but need to be in Winnipeg for treatment. Prior to getting ill she worked in retail. Her husband was self employed. She has applied for EI sickness benefits but her application seems to have hit a roadblock. Since her husband was self employed, he did not contribute to EI and he has since lost his income as he has taken time away from working to look after her. Not receiving any benefits has made it very difficult for them to manage their expenses. Cancer Crossing has made a contribution to towards her accommodation and we hope that she can start receiving her benefits very soon. Cancer Crossing helps those who 'fall between the cracks'. Please support our cause so we can continue to assist cancer patients! We are receiving many requests.
