CANCER CROSSING ASSISTED A WOMAN WITH STAGE IV COLON CANCER

Cancer Crossing assisted a woman from Western Manitoba who was diagnosed with stage IV colon cancer. On top of a previous cancer diagnosis 30 years prior, she also overcame many life obstacles that were placed in her path and is the true definition of a survivor. A cancer diagnosis quite often coincides with financial hardship and we wanted to help ease the burden this single-mom of two was facing. Travel to and from medical appointments can be costly and we were able to assist her in the way of fuel.

Cancer Crossing helps those who ‘fall between the cracks.’

CANCER CROSSING ASSISTS YOUNG MOM SO THAT SHE CAN CONTINUE TREATMENT IN WINNIPEG

Cancer Crossing assisted a young woman from the Parkland region who is a single mom to three boys. In the spring of 2023 she was diagnosed with a rare cancer that affects the central nervous system causing tumors in the brain and spine. She underwent a 12-hour surgery to remove a tumor from the base of her spine and in September she completed 6 weeks of radiation therapy.

From the day she received her diagnosis she made numerous trips to Winnipeg for medical appointments and treatments and was required to stay in Winnipeg for the duration of her radiation therapy. She was struggling to make ends meet and at the suggestion of an oncology social worker she was put in touch with Cancer Crossing, who provided her with support in the way of fuel.

Upon completing our patient questionnaire for Cancer Crossing she included this handwritten note:

"Thank you for your most generous donation to help my family and I.

Organizations such as yours are like beacons of light during the uncertainty of living with cancer”

Please support our cause so we can continue to assist cancer patients such as this young mom!

CANCER CROSSING ASSISTS WITH HEALTHY FOOD AND OTC MEDS FOR RENAL CANCER PATIENT

Hi everyone!

It's been a long time since we have posted a patient assist. We continue to provide financial assistance to cancer patients on a weekly basis but due to lack of human resources we cannot keep this blog updated! We keep vowing to do better so hopefully sometime soon we can fulfill that promise to ourselves.

Cancer Crossing has assisted a gentleman in the far north who has renal cancer. He is on chemo and is employed as a chef at a local homeless shelter. He has no benefits of any sort with this job and when he gets his treatment, he gets quite ill and has to miss work which is taking a financial toll. Furthermore, he is finding the cost of healthy food and over the counter medications to alleviate his symptoms are becoming out of reach for him and he could use a bit of help.

Cancer Crossing has assisted this gentleman with funds to help him buy some healthy food and OTC medication.

Cancer Crossing helps those who 'fall between the cracks'.

Please support our cause so we can continue to assist cancer patients! We are receiving many requests.

Cheques may be mailed to Cancer Crossing Inc., 1-1660 Kenaston Blvd., PO Box 70029, Winnipeg, MB R3P 0X6 or you can contribute on our website at cancercrossing.com

Buying our book 'Cancer Crossing' at The Unexpected Gift, 564 Osborne Street, Unit 2, in Winnipeg helps cancer patients too. You can also buy a book through us directly at info@cancercrossing.com

CANCER CROSSING HAS VEGETABLES FOR YOUR FALL RECIPES!

The snow is gently falling, the air is getting crisper, our minds are turning to soups and crockpot meals. Why not get your vegetables from Cancer Crossing?

We are doing the Peak of the Market vegetable fundraiser!
The small bag of Vegetables is $15 and you get
2 lbs of Carrots, 5 lbs of Red Potatoes and 2 lbs of Yellow Onions
The large bag is $25 and you get
3 lbs of Carrots, 10 lbs of Red Potatoes and 3 lbs of Yellow Onions,
1 lb of Parsnips and 1 head of Green Cabbage.
Once we sell $1,000.00 worth of vegetables, Cancer Crossing gets 50% of the proceeds (for example, at $1,000.00 in vegetable sales, Cancer Crossing gets $500.00; at $1,200.00 in vegetable sales, Cancer Crossing gets $600.00 and so on).
The great thing is if you don't need or want vegetables, you can still make a purchase and the vegetables can be donated to someone you know or a food bank of your choice.
Deadline for orders is November 18/23
You can order here
(Click on 'Buy a Bundle'; when it comes time to Check Out, under School/Daycare choose Cancer Crossing; check the box that is hard to see under the Province 'I am placing a Community Order...')
You will get your order around November 30th.
Cancer Crossing is 100% operated by volunteers. There are no paid staff, and all operating expenses are sponsored so you can be sure that whatever proceeds Cancer Crossing gets from Peak of the Market actually go to a cancer patient in need.
Thank you for your support!
