A gentleman from the interlake area has recently contacted us for help. He has prostate cancer. Since there are no volunteer supports in his town, his wife will be driving him to Winnipeg for radiation. In total, the many trips to the city will amount to over 5000 km travel. His wife is still working but all the travel means she will not be able to work as much as usual and they need some financial assistance to get through this time in their lives. Cancer Crossing was recently asked to help a man in his 40s with tongue cancer. He has six weeks of radiation therapy in Winnipeg. He will be staying in the city during the week and going home on weekends, a distance of over 400 km round trip. Of course he cannot work while undergoing treatment and his EIA Disability payments are a fraction of his regular pay. With your help we are pleased to be able to give him a small stipend to help pay for food and gasoline. Thank you for helping us support Manitobans with cancer.

Cancer Crossing was recently contacted on behalf of a man in his 70s, living with lymphoma. He lives with his wife, north of Swan River and has to drive to treatment. Some of his treatment has been 140 km round trip and some has been in Winnipeg, a distance of nearly 600 km one way. Coming to Winnipeg means not only the cost of travel but also the cost of a hotel. He and his wife have modest government pensions which do not stretch to cover these extra trips.
