As Canadians we don't often perceive that we could have a monetary barrier to healthcare. Unfortunately, that is what happened to a woman from a small town. She is 200 km one way to her nearest cancer treatment centre. As a retiree her income is so stretched that without financial assistance she was at risk of not being able to continue treatment as she couldn't afford the cost of gasoline.
